Fact nr 1. Art used to be an Olympic event. Thanks to the founder of the modern Games, the Baron Pierre de Coubertin, between 1912 and 1948 medals were given also for the art works inspired by sport (there were 5 categories: music. architecture, literature, painting, sculpture).
Fact nr 2. The Mona Lisa has her own mailbox in the Louvre as she gets many love letters. No matter how strange it may be, over the years the portrait of Mona Lisa had got a lot of admirers – people who really fell in love with her. The artist Luc Masperojage jumped from the hotel balcony in 1852, he said: “For many years I fought desperately for her smile. I prefer to die. Who knew that art appreciation could be so dark?“.
Fact nr 3. Other interesting fact about Mona Lisa – a portatrait wasn`t famous until it was stolen. Before 1911 most people did not know about that picture, though by this time it was 350 years old. When it was stolen, several people gathered to see the empty exhibition of where the picture was placed.
Fact nr 4. Van Gogh has sold only one painting during his life. Only one person bought his painting during the time a famous artist was alive. This painting was sold in Brussels for 400 Francs a few months before he died.

Fact nr 6. The Mount Rushmore National Memorial is the largest statue in the world. The construction was started in 1927 and it was completed only in 1941, 14 years later. It features the heads of four former presidents of the United States (George Washington, Theodore Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, and Thomas Jefferson).
Fact nr 7. Artist Willard Wigan inhaled his own work. Yes, he inhaled his ‘micro-sculpture’. His art works are very tiny so it is possible to view them only through a microscope. The work he inhaled was Alice, from Alice in Wonderland.
Fact nr 8. Claude Monet was told to be a grocer instead of an artist. His father didn`t want him to become an artist. Monet was told to become a grocer in order to have a stable source of income.
Fact nr 9. There are 4 versions of the picture ‘The Scream’. The first version was painted in 1893 and was exhibited in Oslo. In the same year a pastel version was also made. The third version was privately owned and the last version was given to the Munch Museum.
Fact nr 10. Artist Salvador Dali was saidthat he was his dead older brother. Nine months after the death of his older brother Dali thought that he became his reincarnation and he lived with this belief for many years.
